Museum Series - Metropolitan Museum of Art

This is the beginning of the many visits I plan to make to the museums of New York. I decided to start with The Met. I was there for a very short time so I could only see 2 exhibits. Here are some of my shots..

I think this visit was more about the people than the actual exhibits. Let me know what you think..

Fire Island Lighthouse

Fire Island lighthouse is not the same as the fire island beach. You have to take a ferry to go to the beach but not for the lighthouse.

It was a perfect summer day - with a clear sky and scattered clouds. For the past 3 years that I have lived in New York, I have always wanted to go there but never had a chance. Easiest way to get there is by car :o)

The lighthouse was first lit in 1858. It is no longer in use now however. There is a small museum and a gift shop. You can also go top of the lighthouse. There are about 168 steps to the top and a breathtaking view!!

En route the top:

View from the top..

There are many trails that go around to the bay area side of the island. They are fun to explore the area.

Big Apple BBQ Block Party

What a gathering! There must have been thousands of people who came this to BBQ festival. The weather was perfect (maybe a little chilly for me). Of course there wasn't anything for me, being a vegetarian and all but it was fun watching people enjoy the food.

A little girl dancing. So precious :)

You could see a thick cloud of smoke at all times! By the end of it, I was smelling of BBQ :o)

And of course.....

This one almost looks staged with the people in the background.. haha!

Photography Class

I recently took a photography 101 class. It was a fun experience. After each class I had some homework to do to practice whatever was taught in the class. After this 9 weeks course, there was an exhibition of your work. For this exhibition, each student had to select a theme. I being big on coffee, decided to pick coffee shops as my project.

I wanted to share the six photos that I displayed in the exhibition..

I thought I would be able to "discover" quite a few coffee shops but with work constraints and of course my laziness (surprise!) , I could only visit a few.. I am still proud of the end result. I am not as shy of taking pictures of strangers as I was before this class and I learnt how to manipulate the manual settings of my lovely camera :o)

Jersey City, NJ

Never realized that there was a fallout shelter close to me all this while. If you notice it says Capacity - 165. Well at least now I do I have an exit strategy haha...

I wonder what is behind that door...

a day in the park - van vorst park

Van Vorst Park, Jersey City, NJ.

After having an amazing brunch on a Sunday morning, I decided to take a walk to this park. I was a bit sad  when I first got here. This was the first time I visited here after last summer. I had remembered it as being lush green.. It was still nice to be walking around, watching dads playing with their kids and of course the dog walkers :o)

It is April, so I did see some flowers. That was a nice surprise :o) I had to take colored pictures, not sure if I would have done justice in black & white.

If you happen to be around downtown JC area, you should definitely stop by this park.

A funny poster I found on my rainy day walk. Certainly made my day :o)

One of the many abandoned mills. This might have been one of the entrances.

Orange

South Beach, Miami, Florida.

Walking over to get some lunch. The fall colors were still alive during November.

Sundial

Jersey City, New Jersey.

There is a sundial outside the Hyatt Hotel, Exchange Place. I took this picture on a cloudy day -- ironic I know. The time when a sundial can't really tell me what time of the day it is.. Lucky for me we have watches and cellphones now :o)

Let's take a walk

Montego Bay, Jamaica.

This is one of the many gorgeous beaches of Montego Bay. Blue sky and even more blue ocean.

This picture has so much going on with it. I didn't even realize it when I took it. I only noticed some boys walking around - to my surprise I had also captured a speck of cloud, a sail boat and an airplane.

Sunset in the desert

Thar Desert, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

Jaisalmer is known as the sun city. Rightly so..

On my visit to Jaisalmer, I stayed in the tents at Chokhi Dhani. You get all the amenities of a hotel and an experience of the tent, if you have not done something like that before like me.

The evening was spent watching the sunset in the desert. That's when I took this picture. It truly is beautiful. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying the special program at Chokhi Dhani - full of colorful dancers, musicians, puppet-tiers  and of course the magician.
